Trigger Point Massages

Focused Massaging

Ouch!  Do you have a particular place on your body that causes regular pain?  Like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, tendonitis, or bursitis? Trigger point massages, also called neuromuscular therapy, focuses on finding and untying those “knots” in your muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues. Our Fuquay-Varina massage therapists will find those knots and pinpoint them down to those over-worked and overly-tightened muscles or ligaments.

This is not just a “decided to work in the yard and overdid it” kind of pain.  The knots we’re talking about here form over time. The toxins have been usually building up for a while.  Only after you get a reasonable buildup of toxins in the muscle or ligament fibers do you get the kind of pain that the trigger point therapy focuses on.

Trigger point in our Fuquay-Varina office focuses on techniques that will break down the “knots” and get the toxins out of the fibers.  Further massage can then lengthen those affected fibers and boost your blood flow to the affected tissues. When your therapist can finally get more blood flow into those areas, the pains will dramatically diminish.

Trigger Point Massages Explained

The trigger point style and therapy was put together by Dr. Janet Travel during the 1940s. The treatment uses solid pressure used on the muscles or ligament tissue to reduce your pain as well as correct problems in other parts of the body. Trigger point is also frequently referred to as myofascial trigger point therapy, as the therapy actually works on the myofascial sheath. The myofascial sheath encompasses your muscles providing support for the muscle fibers. This particular approach to massage therapy focuses more on manipulating that sheath than the muscles themselves.

What should you expect from your Fuquay Varina Trigger Point Massages?

Trigger point massages, similar to deep tissue massages not necessarily a relaxing type bodywork.  The Trigger points can be sensitive or tender, but we encourage the client to breath through the process which causes the point to release quickly.

There is often an emotional release and a feeling of returning circulation of blood to the targeted area as soon as the trigger point has been released.  Like the deep tissue massages, there’s frequently tenderness for up to a couple of days. Sometimes clients will continue to experience a continuing emotional release following release of the trigger point.  Over the long-term, clients receiving trigger point massages can fully expect decreased pain or discomfort as well as restored range and ease of motion.
