Craniosacral Therapy

I’m trained and licensed in numerous forms of therapeutic massages including craniosacral massaging. The craniosacral system impacts the your body more than almost every other system.  One of the principal functions of your craniosacral system is to give protection to and nourish the spinal cord as well as the brain.  This system affects practically all parts in the central nervous system.

The methods used by craniosacral therapy help bring your system back in balance, allowing the entire body to self-heal.  The advantage of craniosacral therapy is that because it heals pain at the source, stress is lessened by natural means, your immune system is strengthened and just about every aspect of health is improved.

Craniosacral therapy can be used by osteopathic doctors, chiropractic professionals, naturopathic doctors or therapists – such as those at Van Deusen in Fuquay-Varina.  It got its start from Dr. John E. Upledger, an osteopathic physician.  Craniosacral Therapy is a mild, holistic form of treatment.  This is a gentle, non-invasive style of treatment which makes it possible for your body’s own healing mechanism to perform more effectively.  Craniosacral treatments are a non-invasive  technique that helps the whole body’s own healing process.

The Upledger Method

One technique of craniosacral therapy is, not surprisingly, the Upledger method – yes, the SAME Upledger as above, which utilizes a light touch during your session. It isn’t really unusual for clients being given craniosacral therapy to enjoy deep feelings of relaxation not just through the visit, but following the session too. Clients can and frequently do also feel light-headedness.  Feeling light-headed and deeply relaxed is connected to a rise in endorphins.

The therapist will evaluate your craniosacral system, establish a still point in that rhythm and using a gentle rocking motion, stretch out the spine in the lumbarsacral area.  In addition, the therapist will target each of the cranial bones.  The therapist determines which stage is appropriate for each and every client.  Craniosacral therapy is shown to provide benefits to people who have migraine headaches, sinus pressure or weakened immune systems.
